In a venetian mood: The glass of the architects. Vienna 1900-1937

To enjoy your venetian holiday, what about a glass exhibition? In this respect, we have the right advice for you! From 18th April to 31st July 2016 at the Venice glass museum Le Stanze del Vetro in San Giorgio Island, glass art works by the main protagonists of the Vienna Modernism are featuring. We talk about Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, Joseph Maria Olbrich and many others… and there will be more than 300 glass works, coming from the MAK collection (Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art of Vienna) and from many private collections.

The venetian glass exhibition will focus on the birth of the art of modern glassmaking in Austria between 1900 and 1937. This laps of time has been chosen because of its astonishing results as far as glass objects, installations and glass works of art are concerned (there are also the glasses designed by Adolf Loos for J. & L. Lobmeyr!). In The glass of the Architect, it is also possible to see drawings, photographs and wallpaper inspired by Wiener Werkstätte.

Le Stanze del Vetro is a new conception of a ‘museum of glass’ in Venice since it is a sort of permanent exhibition space designed to host the production of international artists who have used glass as an original means of expression and a medium to realise their personal aesthetics. In addition, this Venezia glass museum is a project aimed to show all the numerous potential uses of glass, not only in Venice but all over the world.

The admission to the venetian glass museum is free and the opening hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (closed on Wednesday). For info, you can call +39 041 5229138: do not miss this venetian hymn to glass… you will be absolutely amazed.
