How to travel to Venice from France in March 2021

At the present date, it's possible to enter Italy without quarantine from most of the EU countries, for instance France. Travellers from France need to pass a negative covid-test in the 48 hours preceding the trip and register their arrival at the local authorities. But then, which are the current travel options to reach Venice?

After a year of nearly zero flights, all low-fares air companies like Easyjet and Volotea offer highly discounted rates to fly to Venice from France, for as low as 12,00€ per trip on some days, but what travellers need to know is that, in case the flight is underbooked, the company can cancel it quite easily. They will offer a refund, a voucher or a rebooking, but it may be not the most convenient option  

Flag carriers are slightly more expensive, but they, too, have discounted rates and they should offer a higher guarantee that the flight will actually be operated.

What about travelling by train to Venice? It's by far the most eco-friendly and relaxing option, even if the trip may be longer. The great advantage is also that you arrive directly to Venice Santa Lucia station, which is already in central Venice. Another advantage is that you don't have any luggage limit, so it may be an ideal way to travel if you plan to stay longer. Thello company, which used to operate the night train from Paris to Venice, is currently operating a Nice-Milan route (about a 5 hours trip); from Milan there are several trains to Venice, operated by Trenitalia (about 2 1/2 hours trip). Another possibility is to take a SNCF TGV Paris-Milan and then again a Trenitalia train to Venice.

If you're a bus lover, Flixbus is still offering a Paris-Venice route, taking about 18 to 21 hours with prices from 80,00€ per trip. A long trip not advisable to everybody, but it's another option to consider.

And if, after all, you think that it's better to be autonomous and not to rely on any company, you may still consider arriving by car: Michelin guide estimates between 11 and 14 hours from Paris to Venice, with an average cost of 250,00€ considering highway tolls and fuel. Besides, you then have to consider to find and pay for a parking place, which in Venice may be not the cheapest option: the daily fare for a car parking lot goes from about 5,00€ at Marco Polo airport (if you take advantage of long term offers) or Mestre, to 35,00€ per day at the parking places in piazzale Roma.
