A guide to separate waste collection in Venice
Living in Venice is always challenging, also in everyday life! It is very important that each of us makes their contribution to protect the environment of the city of Venice, so fragile and threatened on several fronts. Separate waste collection is surely a fundamental task, but it's true that it's not as simple to do as it may be anywhere else in the world.
Reassure yourself, garbage collection is puzzling also for residents, but you will find here a few tips which may help you understand how to make it correctly.
First of all, no garbage bags left outside in public spaces is allowed. The municipality of Venice has invested heavily in separate waste collection, so that waste can be taken to the various collection boats, or wait for the street cleaners to ring the doorbell to deliver the bags directly.
Secondly, separate waste collection takes place every other day: Monday, Wednesday and Friday for paper, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for plastic, cans and glass, all in the same bag, with the appropriate sticker. Unsorted waste is collected every day from Monday to Saturday. It is important to always place waste in a bag. Loose waste, not in bags, will not be collected.
Third tip: there is no waste collection on Sundays or holidays.
